Islamic wills in Alberta
An Alberta will can record your Islamic inheritance wishes and name the person who will administer your estate. Choosing the format is only one part of preparing a plan your family can understand.

Formal or holograph will?
Alberta describes a formal will as a signed written document witnessed by two people who also sign in your presence. A holograph will is entirely in your handwriting and signed by you. Printing a draft does not satisfy that handwriting requirement.
Choose a personal representative
The personal representative administers the estate. Speak with your proposed representative before naming them, and identify an alternate. Explain where to find the signed original and the supporting inventory. Consider practical matters such as availability, language, record-keeping and willingness to seek legal or religious guidance.
Separate death planning from incapacity planning
Alberta distinguishes a will from an enduring power of attorney and a personal directive, which address decisions during life. Completing a will does not complete those other documents.
Bring the full family picture
Record marriage, partnership, children, previous relationships and support arrangements accurately. Ask an Alberta lawyer how any adult interdependent partner or dependant issues affect your intentions. Separately ask a qualified scholar about the inheritance treatment of your actual family configuration. A percentage calculation cannot replace those two reviews.
Before you finish
Read the entire draft, check names against your records and make sure the executor and bequest instructions match your intentions. Follow the signing requirements for the chosen format. Put the original somewhere secure, keep its location in your emergency information and return to the plan after major life changes.
